
This course introduces students to the aesthetic concepts and technical considerations of digital photography. Students study the history of photography and learn about key elements of the medium including composition, color theory, lighting, and digital image processing. Through hands-on assignments, students practice the visual awareness and aesthetic vocabulary necessary to plan, compose, and edit high-quality photographs. The course highlights the use of photography as a form of artistic expression and also as a medium for communication. Students must possess a digital camera, preferably with through-the-lens viewing. Contemporary cell phone cameras are acceptable.
